Fishing Reports for 2010 Fishing Season

Mondy August 2, 2010.  Beautiful weekend with warm weather.  Water temp on LG continues to be in the mid 70's.  Fishing with poppers & sneaky pete's has produced some nice/fun smallmouth bass.  SM seem to love August on Lake George.  The Schroon was 72 degrees on the last trip, no trout but lots of panfish and smallmouth bass.  Enjoy the weather & fishing.

Tuesday July 27, 2010.  The Schroon River fished well yesterday.  No trout but plenty of fish.  Water temp is 72, easy wading and a nice hatch early.  Fishing below the dam was the best location.  Fish early in the morning or at dusk for best results.

Friday July 16, 2010.  Weather has been incredible.  Hardly any wind, sunny, 80's, the Adirondacks &  Lake George at its best.  Fishing is great.

Wednesday July 14, 2010, Stiff north wind this morning.  It actually feels good after the week plus of warm weather.  Fishing has been solid with two awesome trips over the weekend.  One trip in Northwest Bay and the Narrows and the second in the south basin near Long Island.  Plenty of fish, quite a few with poppers on the surface.  With little wind the surface fishing has been lots of fun.  Water temp throughout the lake is 76 to 78 degrees on the surface.  However, as soon as you get down a few feet the temp cools quickly.  Below the surface with a sinking line we have been fishing black & olive wooly buggers and some new crawfish patterns recently found - they have been great.   Looks like the summer weather is here to stay, enjoy Lake George!

Saturday July 3, 2010,  Happy 4th !   Where has the time gone.  Fishing has been great.  Have fished the Schroon,  Lake George, and northern VT over the last 10 days.  All are fishing great.  Cooler temps plus rain have kept water conditions ideal.  Lake George has been beautiful, water temp 68 throughout the southern basin, small mouth and large mouth bass still along the shore.  Fishing near drop offs and ledges has been great.  River fishing is good, best time early or late.  Weather is predicted to be perfect over the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Saturday June 12, 2010.  Rain! At times lots of it. But the fish don't seem to care.  Nice morning on the lake in spite of the wet conditions.  Several nice smallmouth & largemouth bass.  Three go ho fishman on board this morning with one ......almost 7 year old that won biggest fish!  Fun morning.

Thursday June 10, 2010.  Super day! Fished Lake George in the Morning, Schroon & Hudson in the afternoon.  Cooler weather has helped the fishing. LG had a south wind this morning but fishing was excellent.  The Schroon water temp is back to 64 degrees and the river is fishing like it was just restocked, maybe it was.  Plenty of browns & rainbows on dry flys.  The Hudson at Glen Creeks was 63 degrees and the group caught both small mouth bass & browns.  Other than a few heavy downpours a great day of fishing.
Sunday June 6, 2010.  Rain & wind this morning on the Schroon River.  We were the only ones below the dam and in spite of the chilly conditions the browns were there and cooperated.  Caught several on dry flies which was a treat.  Water temp is a little too warm @ 71 degrees.
Saturday June 5, 2010.  In spite of Tornado warnings the weather stayed perfect all afternoon.  No rain, able to stay out of the wind, and warm temps in the 80's.  Lake George temp roughly 68 degrees.   Fishing along the shore continues to be strong with SM & LM bass.
Friday June 4, 2010.  Another nice day today.  Very little wind.  Water temp is 66 degrees.  Catching LM & SM bass all along the shore.  Best streamer has still been a bead headed oliver wooly bugger.  Weekend forcast looks pretty good at this point....possibility of some rain.
Friday May 28, 2010.  Perfect morning on Lake George.  No wind, no boats, perfect temp.  Lost count of the fish caught after the first 1/2 hour.  The setup - a bead headed olive wooly bugger, 9 ft. leader, WF floating line, 9 ft. - 6 wgt. Helios.......matched with an angler who could cast to any target at any distance......lethal.  Water temp. 65 degrees.
Thursday May 27, 2010.  Schroon River tonight.  Fishing below the dam was very good.  Best results were with a black clouser streamer.  A few nice browns and smaller rainbows.  Weather is great!
Tuesday May 25, 2010. Lamoille River......again.  Great fishing above the iron bridge in Morrisville.  Size 14 Adams worked great, water level perfect for wading.
Monday May 24, 2010.  Beautiful night on the Lamoille River in Johnson VT.  A few nice rainbows on bead headed nymphs, water was warm, thermometer read 72, could that be right?
Friday May 21, 2010.  Great time of year on Lake George.  Full light @ 5:30 and this morning dead calm, not a ripple.  Floated the east shore, first few fish were small mouth bass....did not expect that.  Felt like the large mouth bass would be the likely target.  Eventually, we found LM along the shore, in shallow water.  Used both floating and sinking lines.  Best fly was a bead head, olive, wooly bugger and the mickey finn.   Weather forcast for the weekend looks real nice.  Get out & fish!

Thursday May 20, 2010.  The Schroon River has dropped over the last week.  Wading is very good.  Recent NYS trout stocking has made the fishing great.  Fished late afternoon near the canoe take out below the iron bridge.  A little slow for the first hour but as the sun set the fish began to rise.  Did well with light Hendrickson (size 16) and Adams on the surface.  Did not catch any fish with nymphs.

Friday May 14, 2010.  Fished the Schroon River last night.  Water level is just above 3 ft. on the gauge.  The river is very wadeable below Starbuckville Dam.  Fishing is very good, especially with dry flys, Adams, Blue Winged Olives, Royal Coachman, all working.  Size 14.  River has been stocked.  Lake George is 54 degrees and just yesterday I spotted a few largemouth moving along shore.  Bass fishing usually kicks in around May 16th so the Lake is right on schedule.  Little or no wind in both locations yesterday so conditions were idea for casting.

Season's Finished......thanks to everyone for such a great season.  Headed west to fish for the month of October.

Tuesday September 29, 2009.  A busy month with lots of good weather.  The fishing continues to be good with streamers and sinking lines.

Monday August 31, 2009.  Where did the month go, north wind this morning.  We left from Bolton and fished NW bay and the narrows.  Everyone has gone home so we had the lake to ourselves.  A few fish on streamers and depth charge lines.

Tuesday August 25, 2009.  Nice morning, lots of sun, south breeze that increased toward noon.  A few fish.

Monday Aug. 16, 2009.  Steamy weather continues, south wind during the day with hazy & hot sun. Tonight calm with an orange ball sunset.  Fishing was good at sunset, plus a visitor we did not expect, a 22" pickerel who wanted no part of coming on the boat.

Thursday Aug. 12, 2009.  Perfect, no wind, calm lake, slightly overcast, very little boat traffic.  Ideal conditions for casting a fly rod on Lake George.

Tuesday Aug. 10, 2009.  Covered lots of lake today.  The morning (beautiful) in NW Bay casting everything from poppers to streamers, floating to Depth Charge, catching sunnies to small mouth. Alot of fun.  The evening was spent in the south end dodging a big north wind as a big high blew thru followed by heavy rain. We got off the lake just in time after catching fish off Elizabeth Is. and Long Island.  Water temp in the low 70's.

Monday Aug. 9,2009.  Calm morning and a little overcast.  Good day to fish poppers & a 3 weight.  It is true, any fish is fun to catch on a fly rod, but do it with a 3 weight and it's a hoot!

Sunday Aug. 8, 2009 - Great morning to fish, overcast, very little wind, and a very early start.  Lot's of casts, tired arms and fish, but we thought there would be more.

Friday Aug. 7, 2009 - A busy morning on Lake George.  Cool start with some fog in the warmer bays, August is here.  Nice fishing throughout the southern basin from LI to Warner Bay.  Sunny and clear.

Thursday Aug. 6, 2009 - Nice weather with little wind, relatively good fishing with streamers and wooly buggers.  Water is warming up with temps in the 70's.

A picture is worth a thousand words......Today Show - Awesome!

  • Sunday July 19, 2009.  Lake George was perfect this morning, very little wind, water temp. 69, a little overcast.  Fished with two pros who landed fish after fish along both the east and west shore.  Also landed one of the largest smallmouth bass this season.  This fish was fun on a fly rod!

Fishpoint Smallmouth

  • Thursday July 16, 2009.  Nice trip to the Blue Mtn. lake area, mostly sunny with just a few minutes of rain.  A few fish, nothing to brag about, beautiful area.
  • Monday July 13, 2009.  Partly to mostly sunny, water temp is 70 degrees and so is the air.  No humidity and the lake is pretty quite and calm for July.  Hope you are fishing,  I'm painting the garage.........maybe tonight.
  • Sunday July 12, 2009.  After last nights thunder & rain Lake George served up a perfect morning.  Very little wind, calm water, plus sun!  Nice fishing along the west shore south of Bolton Landing.  Still catching small mouth & largemouth bass along the shore.  Used a floating line all morning with bead head buggers. Fun.
  • Saturday July 11, 2009.  WIND! out of the south 15 to 20 knots all day.  Fishing was good if you could stay out of the wind.
  • Friday July 10, 2009.  Pea soup fog early this morning but the sun burned it off for clear blue skys.  Very little wind early then more from the south.  Fished the flats south of Bolton again with a few small fish and lots of casting practice with a variety of rods.  Perfect day to work on distance casting and technique.  The new Helios 9'6", 6 wt. was the favorite by far with both floating and sinking lines.  Great morning, get your gear and get on the water, the fishing is good!
  • Thursday July 9, 2009.  Cloudy this morning with NO wind.  The southern basin was calm all morning.  We were able to fish everywhere, along the shore, in the middle, the flats south of Bolton, a super day.  The Mickey Finn and bead headed wooly buggers are still doiing the job with sinking lines.
  • Tuesday July 6, 2009.  The rain continues to show up every day but it has not hampered the fishing.  A beautiful trip this morning with two aspiring flyfisher "women" starting in Paradise Bay and working north to Black Mountain Point. Lots of fun, Lake George at its best evern without sun. Gin clear water, no one in sight, and a couple small mouth bass of good size.
  • Sunday June 21 - Thursday the 25th, 2009.  WIND and lots of it.  A strong north wind blew in on sunday and has stayed thru wednesday.  Then thursday strong out of the south.  All trips went as planned and we managed to catch some pretty nice fish each day.  A challenge for fly casting but everyone was casting well and the everyone caught fish.

The Mickey Finn Team

  • Tuesday June 16, 2009.  Lake George is picture perfect.  Water temp 67 degrees, wind from the south.  Catch a (2) large pickrel tonight plus  the normal large & small mouth bass.  Fun evening.

  • Friday June 12, 2009.  Lots of rain, rivers and lakes are rising.  Fished the Little River in VT, not effected too bad by the water & somewhat clear.  Nice Hatch towards dark.
  • Sunday June 7, 2009.  Another good day on Lake George, water temp 61 degrees, no wind and overcast.  Warm weather.  Watched Tim Jones, managing editor from the Angling Report land fish after fish and cast to any corner regardless of distance.  Several small mouth 16" long and one 17" in the 3 lb range.  Another 30+ fish day, Lake George at its best.
  • Saturday June 6, 2009.  Perfect day on Lake George, sun, warm temps, and no wind. Fished with a good friend and watched him land fish after fish along the east shore.  It was probably a 30+ fish day with both large & smallmouth bass.  Needless to say the fishing on Lake George has turned on.
  • Thurday & Friday June 4 & 5 2009.  Quick trip to RI for striper fishing.  Camped at the Charleston Breachway.  Good fishing on thursday with 3 fish (small) and tough fishing on friday in wind and rain on the flats at Watch Hill.
  • Wednesday June 3, 2009.  Beautiful morning on Lake George.  Sunny, very little wind, and no boat traffic.
  • Sunday May 31, 2009.  Schroon river is too high.  Tried fishing for a few hours with the gauge at 4.8.  The river is too fast & deep to  be very effective.  A few fly casters below the dam.  As the water recedes this week is should be back to normal.
  • Friday & Saturday May 29 & 30, 2009.  Two days on the Battenkill.  The river is high from all of the rain over the last several days.  Friday a little tough to wade and the water is a little tea colored.  Saturday better, a little lower and clearer.   It should be in great shaper for Sunday and next week.
  • Monday May 25, 2009.  Sunny and calm on Lake George with very little morning boat traffic.
  • Saturday & Sunday May 23 & 24, 2009.  A full house this weekend at the Orvis Fly Fishing School.  The new building at Orvis to house the Fly Fishing School is first class.  Saturday night got things off with a bang as one of the attendees landed a 20" brown trout on the Battenkill, his first fish on  fly rod.
  • Friday May 22, 2009.  All of a sudden the shore has been flooded with small and large mouth bass.  The fish must have moved in on thursday.  We fished the east shore today landing lots of fish and due to the clear water and sun angle spotted lots of fish looking to take up residence for the spawning season.

  • Tuesday May 19, 2009.  Sunny and clear today.  The morning started with cool temps but the turned warmer with lots of sunshine.  A stuborn SE wind forced us on the lee side of islands.  Slow fishing day, hi pressure, too much sun, too windy, cold water temp, not sure why we did not do better, the normal spots were not working, but a pretty nice to be on Lake George.
  • Sunday May 17, 2009.  Big north wind 15+, and high waves, water temp is 52 degrees, sunny and clear.
  • Thursday May 14, 2009.  Pouring rain with a big South wind, air temp 50 degrees, water temp 48 degrees.  NYS boat inspection today, legal for another season, boat goes in the water in the morning.
  • Tuesday May 12, 2009.  Red eye home from Ketchikan.  Great trip on the "Crane" chasing steelhead in the Bradfield  Canal and Prince of Wales island.  Good fishing, food, nice weather, and lots of laughs.  Can't wait to go back.
  • Perfect night on the Crane after a great day sight casting for steelhead on Marten Creek, Denny hanging on to an other one.

  • Thanks for a great season!  I check my email all winter so if you want to book a trip for 2009 please call or email me with your reservation.  Have a great winter!
  • Friday August 29, 2008. Last report for a few weeks.  Leave for Alaska this weekend.  This mornings conditions were beautiful, calm water, no wind, and a little overcast.  Rain is in the forcast for later today, but then it sounds like the weekend will be mostly sunny. Ketchican AK weather has been holding in the 50's, with off and on showers (this is normal) and we are hoping for the sun to come out for this years trip.
  • Thursday August 28, 2008.  Three great days in Vermont with one quick trip back to Lake George for a trip.  The Battenkill is at an ideal level with cool water temp.  The wind on Lake George ended yesterday so it is ideal for casting.  Enjoy!
  • Monday August 25, 2008.  Another stellar day.  No wind this morning with sun and low humidity.  The lake is beautiful.  Hope you are able to get here and take advantage of this great weather.
  • Sunday August 24, 2008.  Great weather since thursday.  Sunny, and clear with low humidity.  Both saturday and today have seen south winds, strong at times.  Water temp is still 75 degrees at our dock, probably higher in the shallow bays.
  • Thursday August 21, 2008.  Feels like Fall this morning.  Cool start but the sun is warming things up.  No wind and calm water making great fishing conditions.  Looks like a great weekend is headed our way.  Enjoy.
  • Wednesday August 20, 2008.  Well the Battenkill has gone up again, monday nights downpour raised the level so much that it was unfishable yesterday and today.  Hope it goes down as fast as it went up.  However, Lake George this morning is beautiful, no wind, sunny, cool and clear.  Water temp still at 75 degrees, great for fishing and swimming.  The forcast for the rest of the week is great!
  • Monday August 18, 200.  Two days on the Battenkill and two more to go.  Water levels and flow are dramatically lower making for great wading and fishing.  It is a tough river to fish....and guide, the trout are wise to all the tricks.  So be quiet, use long leaders, and be patient.  The weather was great this morning, clear, no humidity, and very little wind.  If you have a chance make a trip to Battenkill and take advantage of the great conditions.
  • Saturday August 16, 2008. A breezy start with wind from the north but by 9 am there was no wind and then changing to the south.  Clear morning with dry air.  Water temp is still hanging in there at 75 degrees.
  • Friday August 15, 2008.  TGIF even though we had a cloudy start with a little wind from the north.  Fish are down deeper, sinking lines are the key.  Water temp is 75 degrees.  This evening is clear with a little north wind.
  • Tuesday August 12, 2008.  Weather continues to be hard to predict.  The Battenkill is still unfishable and it continues to rain in souther Vermont.  Nice trip today on the Equinox Pond, beautiful spot and loaded with Rainbows.  Sinking lines with olive wooly buggers seemed to be the right combination.  Lake George had a stiff North wind to start the day but by days end a spectacular sunset and calm conditions.  Everyone is raving about how good the bass fishing is, it has been a super summer.  If you have some time get in a trip before the summer is over.....just do it!
  • Friday August 8, 2008.  Off & on rain, but not much wind this morning.  A quick trip to the Battenkill yesterday afternoon.   Too fast & too high to fish.....trip cancelled.  The rain is great for the fish but raises havoc with the trip schedule.  Water temp on the Battenkill was in the low 60's.  This famed trout stream should fish great as soon as the water gets lower.
  • Thursday August 7, 2008.  Timing is everything and the trip this morning fell into the perfect time slot.  Sunny and very little wind.  We could cast anywhere.  Both the olive bead head and Mickey Finn worked this morning for smallmouth bass.  By noon is has clouded over and the fireworks have started with lightning everywhere.  Hoping is will clear up for this evening.  Water temp holding @ 75 degrees.
  • Wednesday August 6, 2008.  Poured last night and early this morning.  The weather forcast for the rest of the day is rain this morning with a chance of clearing this afternoon and decent weather tonight.  Wind out of the south this morning around 5 knots.  The fish could care less so don't let this weather prevent you from getting on the water.
  • Tuesday August 5, 2008.  The past two mornings have been beautiful.  Clear, warm, and no wind, perfect for casting a fly rod.  We fished the open lake this morning, taking advantage of the calm conditions.  Water temp is holding at 75 degrees.  Over the rocky shoals the water was gin clear.  The olive bead head wooly bugger is working well and also caught a few fish on poppers.  Enjoy the great weather.
  • Sunday August 3, 2008.  A few days with no wind and overcast skies with rain off and on.  Not great for the beach but great for fishing.  This morning is perfect with little boat traffic, no wind, and clear water.  Water temp is 75 degrees.
  • Thursday July 31, 2008.  A great start to another nice day.  No wind this morning, calm water, and a little overcast.  I suspect the clouds will burn off as the sun gets higher.  Water still high from last weeks rain with the temp at 74 degrees.  Lots of people fishing on the Lake last night.
  • Wednesday July 30, 2008.  Last night was beautiful, wind out of the north but the fishing was great.  Today looks like another winner (rain possibly later) with a clear start and no wind.  Enjoy a great day.
  • Tuesday July 29, 2008.  Quick trip to the Schroon River yesterday afternoon, very high, too high to wade.  The NOAA gauge shows it holding steady at this level for a few more days, water temp was 70 degrees at the canoe take out.  Lake George is also still very high but the fish could care less and the Lake continues to fish well.  Clear start to the day on the Lake  but starting to get overcast.  Very little wind.  Water temp. is 74 degrees.
  • Monday 28, 2008.  The south wind continues to blow but other than wind the weather is very nice on Lake George.  Possible thunder storms this afternoon, but the morning trip got off without a hitch.  A few fish,  mainly on bead headed wooly buggers.  Olive seems to be the color of choice the last few days.  Enjoy the day!.
  • Sunday July 27, 2008.  Stiff wind out of the SE at 10+ knots.  We looked for shelter all morning to stay out of the wind or kept it to our backs.  Nice trip this morning into Northwest Bay and the Narrows.  Hooked a nice large mouth bass in the Narrows but lost him just as he got close to the boat.  Seems like we are headed for a period of good weather in the morning with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon.  Lake level is still very high for mid-summer with water temp. at 74 degrees.
  • Saturday July 26, 2008.  Clear, sunny, and very little wind.  Wind out of the south, but not strong enough to hamper casting.  Weather looks perfect for the whole day.  Water is still very high after the heavy rain wednesday and thursday and water temp. at the end of the dock is 73 degrees.  Enjoy the day!
  • Friday July 25, 2008.  The rain is outtahere and the weather is great.  Calm morning near Lake George Village but windy further up the lake.  Wind out of the south, water level way up from all the rain the last two days and water temp holding at 74 degrees.  Nice trip this morning with plenty of fish, mostly small mouth but one pickrel (3rd one this season) that was exciting.  Clear and sunny - a perfect morning to be on Lake George with a fly rod.
  • Thursday July 24, 2008.  The rain, thunder, and lightning continue.  This mornings trip rescheduled due to bad weather.  The water level on Lake George has gone up 7" at my dock since this storm started.  Lake temp is holdiing at 74 degrees.  The water level will continue to rise as the runoff continues off the mountains.  Fridays forcast shows clearing weather so hopefully we will be back in action after this system moves out later today.  The Schroon River gage is rising like an elevator, we needed more water but not all at once.  Depending on the water clarity, by the weekend there could be some good mid-summer streamer fishing.  Get ready for a great weekend.
  • Wednesday July 23, 2008.  Absolute downpour this morning with lots of lightning and thunder thrown in.  Glad I am not on the water.  This storm will really help the local stream levels and generally a storm like this kick starts the Lake George fishing. Last night was beautiful, drier air with temps in the low 60's.  Time to bail the boat.
  • Tuesday July 22, 2008.  A little overcast but no wind with more sun as the morning progressed.  Beautiful early ride to fish from Silver Bay this morning.  Watched fish jump all the way up the lake and they continued to dance while we started fish.  The guide (me) could not come up with the right formula for attracting them on the surface and when we tried to move the boat towards them they would move just out of reach.  The sinking line with a wooly bugger finally was the fly that caught fish.  Great morning to be on the lake, especially at the north end of the Lake.
  • Monday July 21, 2008.  Wind out of the NW at 10-15 knots, overcast, cooler, and less humid.  Lots of rain yesterday and last night but the water temp seems to be holding at 74 degrees.  Usually, a NW wind will blow for 3 days so we may be in for a few days with dryer air and less humidity.  Fishing was great yesterday.  Looking forward to tuesday's trip at the north end of the Lake.
  • Sunday July 20, 2008.  Overcast and dead calm and a low baramoter this morning.  Not a great day for the beach but super for fishing.  We caught everything but a large mouth. Rain started late morning and seems like it will continue through the day.
  • Saturday July 19, 2008.  The good weather continues, a little humid but the breeze on the Lake has kept it comfortable.  Forcasts  are for a few thunderstorms, and we have had a good one this afternoon but it was followed by clear and sunny skies.  Water is in the low 70's.  Best fishing is early on the weekend, the lake is too busy and rough from boat wakes in the afternoon.  Look for 5 mph zones where the traffic is less and water calm.  Enjoy this great weather and call us if you want to book a trip.
  • Thursday July 17, 2008.  Another beautiful summer day.  Spent the day at Orvis working at the fly fishing school.  If you ever have the oppurtunity take the Orvis Fly Fishing School jump at the chance.  Great course covering all the aspects of the sport with plenty of time for casting practice, it will truly jump start your fly-fishing skills. The video tape analysis of your cast is worth the whole course (www.orvis.com).  Weather forcast is for more good weather on Lake George, get here and get fish'in.
  • Wednesday 16, 2008. Clear sunny start this morning with no wind.  Great fishing morning.  The afternoon has brought a few showers with cloulds building.  The evening is forcast to have more clouds than sun with temps in the mid 80's.  Some wind from the SW.
  • Tuesday July 15, 2008.  Rain all Sunday night has brought the Schroon up a foot with the gage forcast showing it will stay there for a few days.  Some mid summer fly fishing on this gem would be a good bet.  The Lake is sunny and clear this morning with lots of fishing boats out eary taking advantage of this great day.  The early morning fishing has gotten us several good wildlifte sightings lately, watched a fawn swim form Elizabeth Island to shore the other morning and two loons out fish the pants off us yesterday morning.  Summer is in full gear with this great weather, and the fishing is super.  Get here and start working that cast.
  • Sunday July, 13, 2008.  Overcast with a little rain this morning, wind out of the southeast at 5-10 knots.  Temp. is cool, water temp. is in the low 70's depending on where you are on the lake.  Fished in the narrows last night and the largemouth fishing was good along (rocky) shore and over shoals.  Beautiful night on the lake with 1/2 moon and lots of stars.
  • Friday July 11, 2008.   Partly cloudy start with a little wind, but last night was a classic summer night on Lake George.  Perfect sunset, and clear sky.  Great fishing over the rocks watching the sun go down.  Poppers are working where you can get out of the wind, but the mickey finn with a floating or sinking line continues to be the fly of choice.
  • Thursday July 10, 2008.  Sunny, clear, and calm this morning.  The last two days have been humid and hot with a strong southwest wind.  Fishing is solid with more smallmouth being caught than largemouth.  Water temp is 72 degrees and the water is clear.  The mickey finn is working well with and intermediate sinking line.  The clients we have had recently are all enjoying the new Sage Bass Rod (7'11") with a clear 10 wgt intermediate sinking line.
  • Monday July 7, 2008, Hazy this morning with wind out of the south, but the haze should burn off at the morning moves on.  Should be another day in paradise, saturday and sunday where great days on the Lake.  Clear and sunny, finally summer has arrived to the north country.  Last night was clear with a nice sunset, the wind stronger than we would like for perfect casting conditions but managable, enjoy the week the long range forcast looks good.

Wednesday July 2, 2008.  Flat water, no wind, clear sky, gin clear water, Lake George at its best.  Perfect for casting a fly rod.  The fish are here waiting for ya, pack up the car and get here.

  • Monday June 30, 2008.  Weather......yikes!  Schedule, reshedule, dodge the thunderheads.  Many thanks to my two repeat clients from yesterday we managed to find a time slot where we only encounted a little rain, a little wind, and a lot of sun.  Two guys that have changed from anglers who thought they might like to try fly-fishing to fly fisherman.  Their casts are straighter, farther, and loops tighter, great progress, and great guys, and one nice largemouth bass on top of it all.  Weather forcast looks better this week, call us and book a trip!
  • Saturday June 28, 2008.  Second morning of pea soup fog and very little visibility on Lake George.  Heavy rain with thunder and lightning late yesterday afternoon and more predicted for later today.  The good news is the fish don't seem to mind and the bass fishing continues to be great.  It is a free fishing weekend in NYS so take advantage of it if you haven't bough a license but want to catch some fish!
  • Wednesday June 25, 2008.  Last night and this morning have been beautiful.  No one on Lake George this morning and no wind, perfect fly casting conditions.  The resident Large Mouth are still in close to shore so we are casting with floating lines and streamers tied with lots of weight.  Last night over the rocks poppers were working.  Enjoy this great weather!  Just received the new Sage Large Mouth Bass Rod (Length 7'11") It casts the 330 grain fly line (provided with the rod) beautifully.  The rod flex of this new model combined with the 330 grain line will make this model very popular with anglers that like to fish for bass, and like to throw long casts with tight loops.

  • Monday June 23, 2008.  A bad weather day.  This morning we were hit with heavy rain & lightning, canceling the trip.  This evening looks the same with predictions of more high winds, rain, and thunder.  In between it has been sunny....go figure.
